An Ideal Way to Get Started

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

The truth about singers: “We cannot hear ourselves the way others hear us”. Due to the physiological makeup of the inner ear and the cavities in the head where the sound resonates, we hear ourselves much differently than others hear us.

A great example of this would be when we hear ourselves recorded on an answering machine. When we play back the recording, we hear such a different voice playing back to us.

Even Canadian Idol contestants who cannot sing in tune and sound highly unacceptable can easily fool themselves into thinking they ‘have what it takes’. Conversely, other singing contestants who have an insecure stage presence may feel that they do not sing well, when in fact the opposite is true.

As a result, the only way we can truly hear our voices is on a recording. Poor audio equipment does not let us hear what the audience really hears. The only way we can really hear how the audience hears us is by using high-quality recording equipment. That takes the guesswork out of singing and learning when we can clearly 'hear' our vocal improvement.

At Studio 55, all our students have access to our fully-equipped, On-Site Recording Studio. Not only do students gain confidence from learning a solid singing technique that they will have for a lifetime, students also gain confidence from knowing what they truly sound like. Students can record professional, high-quality demos in the studio to send to managers, agents, recording producers or just to send to their friends and families as special gifts for special occasions.  The recording studio is a great aid for learning microphone techniques or preparing for stage performances and auditions as well.
