5 Steps for Singing Success!

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

There are 5 steps everyone needs to take to achieve their dreams and goals ...

The first step is 1.) To Dream

Some of us love to dream BIG and that's awesome! "Go BIG or go home!" I believe in that myself! There's another old saying "Everyone wants to be a Singer!" Many people would love to be a professional singer, singing in a big concert with stage lights; a big band and screaming, happy fans roaring with applause in the background! It's important to dream because that's really where the journey begins. Lot of people love singing, but what separates those that succeed at it and those that don't? A sensible, simple plan of action.

I can recall countless stories of big celebrities sharing their humble beginnings and dreams of stardom! Heck, even the 'Law of Attraction' states that in order to achieve our goals we need to be able to visualize them first. That is the premise of multitudes of self improvement audios and techniques.

And although dreaming and visualizing are important, knowing how to take the next steps can either waste our time or put us in action!

Step 2.) To Train

It could take you years and years of research (experimenting and failing through trial and error) to find out what you need to succeed ... or you could save yourself the stress and years of wasted time by finding someone who can see and hear what talents you have and what you need to work on to get you where you want to go. A great singing teacher can save you so much wasted time and money in the long run.

If you train with someone who is highly experienced, you will learn what you need to know immediately. It may take you some time to achieve your long-term goals, but you will be headed in the right direction. How will you know if you're headed in the right direction? You will hear it in your voice. You will notice the feedback from friends and family members as you become more advanced. You will feel vocally stronger and begin to be proud of your own singing voice when you hear it back on a high-quality recording!

Also, a good teacher knows how to produce the voice at a high level him/herself. A good singing teacher will not make unrealistic promises of overnight stardom because .... it doesn't exist. Celebrities explain how there 'so-called overnight stardom' took them years of persistence and patience and determination. You need to find someone who is willing to pick you up when you want to throw the towel in and someone who is there to stand beside you in the background while you are succeeding. That support system is one of the most important keys to success. No one is an island. We all need support and help.

Step 3.) To Discover

The journey as you discover techniques and skill at your craft is very important. Some people don't realize how important this is. This is where you discover who you are; what your strengths are and your challenges. You learn to believe in yourself! Sometimes it takes a someone to believe in you first until you develop that muscle for yourself. Confidence is built over time and much learning. You ultimately learn to make the song your own! Your personality and character shines through in everything you sing and even when you talk on stage.

Step 4.) Gain Experience

This is the time when you learn new skills and try them out on audiences where it's okay if you make mistakes ... even lots of mistakes ... it's okay. That's how we learn through experiencing the use of the tools you are or have learned. Student concerts are a great way of honing this skill in front of forgiving audiences until your ready for bigger and bigger ones ...

Step 5.) Be in Action!

Once you know your craft like a pro, you get an agent and/or manager to take you to the top. They know the 'business' inside and out. You need someone who specializes in the music business to get you to where you want to go. You've worked hard. You've got the goods! And now you are ready to go to top auditions and WOW them!

You may find an agent that specializes in commercials and one that specializes in television and one that specializes in live concerts and another that specializes in musical theatre; or you may find one that handles all these areas, depending on what you are looking for in an agent. Finding an agent that represents you in the way you want to be represented is very important too. Music lawyers are also important before signing any contracts too. You want to make sure you are signing your life away. Only a music lawyer can read these complicated contracts.

When you do your homework, it can be so much fun SUCCEEDING at achieving something you love doing - SINGING!
